Godzilla vs. Kong, a prequel to King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island, will be released in 2021 as a sequel to both films.

Bernie Hayes, an employee of the Apex Cybernetics corporation and the host of the Titan Truth Podcast, a Titan conspiracy theory podcast, exfiltrates information pointing to sinister activities at a Pensacola Apex facility, but just as he is about to finish downloading the files, Godzilla appears and launches an unexpected attack. The remains of the facility include a bizarre piece of technology that resembles a huge robotic eye, which Bernie finds after Godzilla's spree of destruction.

Kong is locked up aboard a custom-built barge with the Apex crew, led by Walter's daughter Maia. While Jia holds hands with Kong, Kong signs the word "home" for Ilene as he feels restless and worried in the middle of the night. Next morning, Ilene tells Nathan about raising Jia as her own after a series of harsh and unpredictable storms killed most of the Iwi and her parents, but Jia was the lone survivor since Kong protected her, leading to their bond."

Fortunately, as Godzilla is being shocked by deep charges, Kong is able to surface for air, thereby ending the conflict.

Seeing no other alternative, Nathan chooses to disable all the ships' power to fool Godzilla into believing he destroyed them and Kong was beaten. Godzilla swims away, satisfied with his victory. Realizing that reactivating the ships may bring Godzilla back, the party decides to fly Kong to an Antarctic Hollow Earth entrance site where Ghidorah was initially frozen. Jia tells Kong that his home is beyond the door, but he refuses to leave.

They come face to face with Apex's ultimate weapon, "Mechagodzilla" a mechanical Godzilla led by the late Dr. Ishiro Serizawa's son, Ren Serizawa. Once the mecha is fired up, Walter sends in a massive adult Skullcrawler codenamed "Number 10" to put Mechagodzilla's Titan-fighting powers to the test. As the Skullcrawler approaches Madison, Josh, and Bernie, Mechagodzilla captures and restrains it before severing it with a massive red energy beam. The mecha immediately shuts down due to power supply constraints.

An island-like habitat akin to Skull Island is discovered in the Hollow Earth by Kong and Nathan. When a pair of Warbats attack, one of the HEAVs is destroyed, while the other is taken out. When Kong killed the first Warbat, he swung its body into the second one, knocking it out, but the monster regains consciousness and tries to ensnare him in a web. Nathan's squad in their HEAV launches missiles at the Warbat before Kong can suffocate it, allowing Kong to break free and pummel the beast to death before devouring its innards.

Kong and Nathan's squad set off on their journey after discovering a majestic stone temple that belonged to Kong's ancestors. As they make their way inside the building, they come across remains of a previous fight between Kong and Godzilla's species, and Kong finds an ancient axe made from the dorsal plate of a deceased member of Godzilla's race. It is possible that this power source will also recharge Kong's axe. Maia and the Apex team use spider-like drones to retrieve the power source and transport it back to their Hong Kong headquarters, despite Ilene's concerns that Apex cannot just take possession of the find of the century on their own terms. When Maia's guards open fire on Nathan's team, Kong cries furiously in response. When Godzilla discovers that Mechagodzilla has been activated, he immediately heads for Hong Kong.

Jia attempts to persuade Kong that Godzilla isn't truly his adversary when he wakes up and watches the struggle between the two monsters. Jia confesses to Kong that Mechagodzilla, not Godzilla, is the "real" adversary, despite Kong's initial skepticism about her claims. While repairing his dislocated arm, Kong eventually accepts Godzilla's offer to aid and sets aside his feelings of resentment.

Kong jumps atop Mechagodzilla and deflect the red energy beam into the air, sparing Godzilla's life. Godzilla helps Kong battle Mechagodzilla after realizing Kong saved his life and that he is not an adversary.

They succeed in turning the tide by combining their forces, but the robot is much more powerful and eventually defeats them. It is revealed that Kong had previously lost his axe when fighting Godzilla, and he reclaims it from the ruins and tries to use it against Mechagodzilla, but his weapon is rendered ineffectual due to the loss of its charge. With nothing left to do, Bernie takes out a flask of booze and suggests that everyone have a drink. However, Josh, having an idea, takes the flask out of Bernie's hand and pours the contents of the drink all over the control panel, short-circuiting Mechagodzilla's controls and allowing Godzilla and Kong to regroup and retake the upper hand.

When Godzilla sees Kong wielding his axe, he charges it up with his atomic breath, enabling Kong to sever Mechagodzilla's limbs and pull off its head before raising his trophy and taking a seat to rest.

While Nathan and Ilene sit together amid the rubble, Jia reunites with Mark, who she meets for the first time and introduces him to Josh and Bernie. Mark is happy to see Josh and Bernie, and Bernie invites him onto his podcast to speak about the Monarch facility in Roswell. Godzilla approaches Kong, leading the Titan to take his axe and ready to continue the battle, interrupting their peaceful moment. Godzilla, on the other hand, does not attack and instead just stares Kong down. Kong, seeing that their actual adversary has been slain, lowers his axe, thereby putting an end to the conflict between his people and Godzilla's people. Now that they are no longer competitors, Godzilla and Kong see each other as equals before Godzilla returns to the sea quietly, with Kong and the whole human population looking on in wonder.

Sometime later, Monarch have created an observation post in the Hollow Earth. One day, Ilene, Nathan and Jia watch as Kong passes by on his morning walk. After signing "home" to Jia, Kong swings onto a cliff, pounds his chest and roars, declaring himself as the king of the Hollow Earth and happily embracing it as his new home and kingdom.

Monster Analysis

Action and stunning visuals make this long-awaited blockbuster showdown easy to forget about the mediocre plot and characters, according to the site's audience review summary. Even yet, the film's monster brawls were praised by many, while others were dissatisfied by the film's "half-baked" human aspects. By Sunday morning of the five-day weekend release period, an estimated $48.5 million dollars in US box office revenue credited the film to halting the COVID-19 pandemic-fueled box office decline. For the first time since HBO Max's launch, WarnerMedia said that the film had the most viewership of any HBO series or movie since its inception. The film succeeded well in other countries as well, earning nearly $236 million from ticket sales outside the United States.

After Godzilla vs. Kong was released in 2021, it was claimed that the picture had exceeded the overall box office of Godzilla: King of the Monsters despite the pandemic's continued impact on the moviegoing population.

Following his unproduced script for the unmade 1994 feature, Terry Rossio's first Godzilla film is here.

This is second movie involving King Kong that Kyle Chandler has starred in, the other being Peter Jackson's 2005 adaptation.

Chandler's appearances in King Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong give him the distinction of being the only individual to appear in the casts of a King Kong picture, a Godzilla film, and a crossover feature between the two.

If Kong slams his dislocated right shoulder on a building to move it, then it may be a reference to Martin Riggs' notorious ability in the Lethal Weapon series.
